1 —1 . W - , ' ' " OTAKI'S MONTHLY MEETING The October meeting of Otaki Women's Insti'tute was hold i recently in the Anglican Hall. Mrs. i Waner Taylor presided over a good attendance. Apologies for absence •were received from Mesdames Allan, Calwell, K. Taylor, Lovry, 'Meyer, H. Nicolson, Radciiffe, Smith and White. Mrs. Taylor welcomed three new members, Mesdames Proctor, Kendrick and Dimock. The drama circle concert, which was held recently, was voted a gceat success. It was stated that 23 members had visited the Br tisli rural handcraft exhibition in Wellington, and had inspected a biscuit factory. All had enjoyed the excursion. The card evenings had prov°d very successful, with the resuit that flve food parcels had been despatched to Britain in September. Mrs. McDonald was unable to continue her demonstration on wood paincing on account of illness, but hoped to do so later on. Mrs. Moss was elected producer for the drama circle till the end of the year. • An enjoyable tiem was given by the singing circle. Mrs. Clark, of Te Horo, gave an interesting aemonstration of weelcend bag making, and waste paper basket. Mrs. Gower won the competiaon conducted by Mrs. Bowey. Cempetition results were: Best flower, Mrs. Temuera; best shrub, Mrs. Carkeek; oat cakes, Mrs. Chittick; handcraft, Mrs. Dimock. The hostesses for the November meeling are Mesdames H. Nicolson, Percival, Purvis, Ralph, Radcliffe and Ross. The competitions will be for a Christmas novelty and pikelets.
