MAGISTRATE'S COURT
MONTIILY SITTING AT OTAKI Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., presid- i ed at Ihe monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court, Otaki, yesterday. Having no warrant of fitness for a motor vehicle cosi Wiiiiam Bell 10s, with 12s costs. For a similar breach Yee Ming Leong paid a penaity of 15s. with 10s costs. Chargod with drivmg a motor vehicle in Otaki Borough at a speed excecding 30 m.p.h., Winter S. Beck was fined £2, with 10s costs. Inspector Davy told the court that defendaul had "eached a speed of 44 m.p.h. W. H. Robcrts was charged with being on. the racecoursc at Oraki during the progress of a race meeting'when he was a prohibited per-i son. Del'endant pleaded guili.y butj said he had a reasonable excuse, going to the eourse to see his son. He admitfced being found £5 in January for a simiiar oftence. The magistrats commented that the law had to be obeyed, and inflicted a fme of £2, with 10s costs. Judgmcnt by dcfault was enternd in the following civil cases: Edwin B. Hand (Mr. C. F. Atmore ) v. A. M. Priestley £32 6s 2d, costs £4 3s 6d; C. Caldwell v. A. M. Priestley £77 17s lld, costs £5 3s 6d. The following judgment summonses were dealt with: J. Houlihan was ordered to pay Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., the sum of £54 11s 8d forthwith in default 60 days' imprisonment; J. Houlihan. was ordered to pay J. 6'Brien-4he-sum of £43 3s 6d forthwith in default 48 days' imprisonment. Albert Hura was ord°red to pay Mirianq. te Hura maintenance of 15s a week for each of their threc children, and also to pay past maintenr.'iice.
