ANNUAL APPEAL FOR FtNDS HiLt> RECENTLY The &nhual shd'p and street day organised by the citizens' committee to raise funds for the . Levin Munieipal Band was hfeld l&st week. ' Consequently the banct's funds will behefit by £204 3s; Two stalls were set up in the ' main street containiiig a good range of articles, both the pfoducfe stall and the needlework stall being well patrohised. The spirit of co-operation between the Horowhenua ^.Pipe Band, the Levin Munieipal Band and the Horowhenua Marching AsSociation was again in evidence when the pipe band and marching teams lent all posSible assistance on Friday night to rhake the day a successful one. Realising that the Munieipal Band would be busy preparing fdr the contest over the weekend, the pipe band and marching teams pa'raded in Oxford Street in an effort' to help the appeal. The band rendefed SCvleral selections at the end of the parade, which was led by DrurfiMajor J. R. Marfarlane, the bahd being under Pipe-Maj'or A. Yorston. At the conclusion of the display, 'the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, thanked the teams and the band for turning out and giving such a fine performance. Special menti'on must be made of the very fiiie effort by members of the sewing committee, under the leadership of Mesdames Lacey and Burdekin, for as a result of their work over a number of months a wonderful assortment of useful garments was on sale. The committee which assisted with this work was as follows: Mesdames Lester, Lagor, Wenham, Jenkins, ■ Nelson, H. D. McKay, Donnelly, J Rippin, Glover, Phelps, de Mey, jChurch and Miss M. Je&kins. i Mrs. Hesp was in charge of the | cooking and produce stall ahd she ; was assisted by Mesdames Lester, i Frederikson, Lynch, Worsfold, I Spencer and Messrs. Church and ; Spencer. Thanks are due to all | who donated cakes and produce to the stall. ' Special thanks are extended to |the street collectors whose efforts were so successful. They were as follows. Mesdames Greenaway, : Hair, Donnelly, Davie, Lynch, Moxiham, Walker, Nichols, Kerr, Tomjlinson, Murray, Mudgway, Gilmour, Leach, Rolston,- Bull, i Church, Moriarty, Ryder, Mac1 Donaldt Cartwright, Tabor and Stack, Misses Selby and Weir, and Messrs. Hatch, Spencer, Church, Young, Frederikson and Jenkins. The loan of a public address sys^tem by the Horowhenua I^archfng ; Association was very muCh appreci- ' ated. j Contributions and assistance were also given by Mesdames Har- | rison, Worsfold, Hannan, Maugham, | Lester and Robinson. The ardu- ' ous duties of secretary and treas- | urer were capably carried out by Messrs. Jenkins and Frederikson respectiyely.
