POWER LINES OVERLOADED
CIRCUIT BREAKERS QUTDATED A number of 'spur lines were now overloaded to an extent that it was not safe to use air break switchps. said the engi-neer, Mr. J. F. Bryc: at Tuesday's meeting of the Horo whenua Electric Power Board. Authorlty was requested for the purchase of oil' circuit breakers. At the present time all spur -lines in the board's area were controlled by air switches. Although only four were needed immediately, within the next few years ten of the oil breakers would be required. They would cost approximately £174 each, and those wanted at present were in the Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Otaki areas. It was decided that the engineer should be given authority to buy the necessary equipment when required. The board decided to maka a contract with the Fost and Telegraph Department for a telephone line from Levin to Mangahao. The erection of a telephone line on the same poles as the power line had been allowed, and would probably cost between £1200 and £1500, said Mr, Bryce, Bevenue Increases With a net revenue of £47,746 the statement of accounts showed an increase of £3452 for the half year, said the managing-secretary, Mr. R. A. Frederikson m his report. There was a difference of £874 between the estimated and the actual income for the year, Normally revenue for the first half of the year was 48 per cent. of the total for the year, in which case the total net revenue should reach £100,000. Taking the figures for the past two years, the final. figures for the year should be £98,000 (estimated for the year) and £99,000 (calculated for the year). Mr. Frederikson considered that the position revealed was most satisfactory, and there was ev.ery indication that there would be a reasonable surplus on the year's woiking.
