INCREASE IN CRIME

Received "Wednesdav, 7 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 22. Statistics covering 1939/45, issued by thfe Home Ofhce, show that crime increased steadily during the war. The number of cases of breaking and entering almost doubled and so did cases of violence. Sexual offences increased from 5015 in 1939 to 8540 in 1945. Over 900,000 people were prosecuted for breaches of Ihe blackout regulations and 1754 people were convicted of more serious breaches of the defence regulations including looting and black mar'ket operation.
