AUCKLAND, Oct. 22. Playing the lirst match of its New Zealand t-our, the Auslralian golf teain was defeated by an Auckland represen tative team by four matches to three al Titirangi. The result of the match was emineutly satisfactory to botli sides For Australia it was a most promising beginning to the tour. Each of the visitors suffered during the match, from several handicaps, the most important of which were a lack of local knowledge and uncertain judgnient of the pace of tlie greens. Eor Auckland the result was an indication that the young players who represented the city had abilitv botli as hitters of the baii and iigiiters for a winning sliot in important matches. The dav was perfect for golf and about 800 people paid for admission.
