(N.Z.P.A.-

Commimist's Outburst In Commons

Received Thursday, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 22. When the Prime Minister, Mr. Atilee, moved che Address oi Congratuiations to Princess '' Llizabeth in ihe House of Commons today, che Communist member, Mr. W. Galiacher, rose and dissociated himself from the address and from the "iarish expenditure connected with this affair." Mr. Galiacher said he was sorry that he should have to taik about what should be the intnnaie and private affair of a y oung girl of whom he knew ver;v linle, but the fact that the muller was before the House deinonstrated that it was not a private. but a public affair with eertain political implications. liWe are told in eertain sections of the Press that it is a question of mutual attraction — what is generally termed a lo\«; affair — but that is quite itTelevant, because the uncle of the young lady had a love affair and iost his job as a conAe.q uence. Don't let us forget that it was a Tory Government, baekt-d by a huge Tory rnajoril \ , tiiat ten years agq threw ihe king off the Throne and sent hini a wanderer on the tace oi ihe earth." Mr. Galiacher continued that 011 the day the engagement was aimounced thousands of Gt(- -K citizens were thrown in1 o ihe prison camps of the reaeiionAry Royalist Greek Governnient. They were told that "1 h;s young man" had forsaken his i'amily name and national1: y, ioul he was (inite eertain he had not forsaken the family iortunes. During Mr. Gallacher's speech the Speaker had to ni«;ke several interventions and oventually Mr. Galiacher sat down. There were angry cries and Mr. J. McGovern rose and prot e.-ted against Mr. Gallacher's "most disgraceful speech." Mr. McGovern added: "Thej rnore I look at'the Red Royal; Family in Moscow the more l| ii-el that the British Royal! Family have a place still in the liearts of the people." j Farlier Mr. Attlee said the' Princess had shown the samej graciousness and understand-! ing which had endeared the Royal House to the people. The ahdress would be presented by Ihe Privy Councillors, representing all the parties. j Mr. Winston Churchill welroined this new method of presenting the address. He said: "Our Constitutional Monarchy and the Royal Family play vital parts in the tradition,' dignity and romance of our, irland life. Millions will wel-i come this splash of colour onj the hard road we have toj travel. The good wishes andi goodwill of the British nation v, iil flow out to the Princess and the young sailor." Mr. Clement Davies for the Liberals and Mr. H. G. Butcher l'or the National Liberals associated themselves with thej motion, which was agreed to. The Ilouse of Lords similarly agreed to the Address of Congratuiations on the motion oi' the Lord Chancellor.
