LOCAL FIREMEN HONOURED
PRESENTATION OF AWARDS | Mr. M. H. Oram, M.P., presented i the honours won by the local firemen durfng the past year at the annual grand dance of the brigade, which was held recently in the Druids' Hall. There was a large ' attendance, including firemen from I Palmerston North, Feilding, Otaki, j Levin, Foxton and Dannevirke. I In making the presentation of I awards, Mr. Oram extended con- 1 gratulations to the brigade in completing another very successful j year of service to the community of Shannon. He stated that the local j brigade was a voluntary one, and I it was only through the keenness of i its members that it was able to j carry on. Each- and every member was doing a great work for the | community, and Mr. Oram felt sure that their efforts were not going unnoticed by the public of the district. The following - members of the brigade were presented with awards: — Five-year service medals: Deputy-Superintendent C. Tremewan, Firemen F. Clough, W. Clough, W. S. Forbes, A. W. Coulter and Secretary G. McEwen. Two-year bars to service medals: Superintendent C. G. Wishart, Firemen F: Clough, C. D. Gyde, N. Richards, D. Richards and ' F.' Clough. The opportunity was also takento present the annual snooker competition trophies. Since 1944 no miniatures were obtainable for the winners, but they have since been secured and the presentations were made to Fireman D. Richards (1944), A. Coulter (1945), C. Tremewan (1946) and K. Clough (1947). Fireman Clough will also hold the cup for this year. Following the presentations,
Superintendent Wishart thanked Mr. and Mrs. Oram for attending the function, and also the public for their wonderful support during the past year.
