SENSATION IN UNITED NATIONS.
Reeeived Fridav, 9.0 p.m. NEW YORTC, October 9. Reports from Beirut that Lebanon and Syria are massing troo])s on ihe Palestine iVontier, caused a sensation among United Nations delegates and inereased pressure on United States and Russia to state whether they support the partition of the Holy Land, says Ihe United Press correspondent. Mr. Paris L1 Khoury (Syria) said sueh troop movements would be the natural way for the Arabs to show their threats were not blnffs. lle laeked offieial eonfii'mation of the Beirut reports but would not be surprised if they wero true in view of Jewish threats of violenee. Ile added that Arabs had to be prepared for any emergency. A .Jewish -Ageney spokesman said the reported troop moves wero obviously "propaganda threats" timed with the development in United Nations Assembly of attempts to fmd a solution of the Palestine problem. The British llinister of State, Mr. McNeil/declared : "I would like to tind out more about it. T eannot believe these responsible govei-nments are permitting sueh irresponsible behaviour." Other British sourees expressed the opinion that the Arab eountries would be unable to muster major military forces at short notiee.
