SHANNON SPORTS CLUB
-oANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The annual general meeting- of the Shannon Sports Club was held last week, with Mr. S. W. Barber presiding over an attendance of 18 members. Those present were Messrs. F. Edmonds, J. Bowler, R. Hook, R. R. Lind, J. Ritchie, L. Carter, B. O. Barber, J. D. Campbell, C. C. H. King, G. Barber, D. Williams, G. G. Mitchell, V. McEwen, C. Guerin, V. Guerin and R. Vinsen (secretary) .. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. E. Perry, S. H. Roberts, L. Coulter, D. Aitchison, F. Clough and W. Moynihan. The annual balance sheet was read by the treasurer and showed the club to be in a very sound financial position. In presenting his annual report, the president extended thanks to his committee and every member of the club for their very loyal support during the past year. Mr. Barber ~ also extended the club's thanks and appreciation to its numerous friends and supporters, who contributed to the success of the annual meeting both financially and socially. Mr. Barber stated that looking back it would be found that there was room for improvement in some places, but hoped that these would receive full consideration in the general business of the meeting. He pointed out that an executive committee representing all the horse sports clubs in this area met at Oroua Downs and fixed the dates for the various fixtures, as well as the rules and generally discussing topics of interest to ' horse sports clubs. In conclusion, Mr. Barber thanked the members for their trust in electing him to the position of president for the year just passed. and hoped that they would give the same loyal support to the new president. . The minutes of the Manawatu district Sports Clubs' Association were then read and a discussion followed. It was decided that the secretary should contact insurance companies regarding the premiums
tof insurance for competitors and members of the .public attending the sports. Mr. J. D. Campbell spoke of the excellent work done for the club by Messrs. W. and T. Moynihan, and moved that they be elected life Inembers of the club. This motion' met with the whole-hearted approval of those present, and was tarried by acclamation.' Considerable discussion on the condition of the grounds arose and it was ultimately decided that a grounds committee of four members be set up to go into ways and means of carrying out improvements. Messrs. S. Barber, R. Lind, C. Guerin and W. Moynihan were appointed as the committee. On the motion of Mr. Barber a recommendation was passed from the meeting to the programme committee regarding the suggestion that the pony flat races be eliminated. The following were the officers elected for the coming year: — President: Mr. S. W. Barber (reelected) ; vice-presidents: Messrs. R. R. Lind and W. Moynihan; secretary: Mr. R. Vinsen; treasurer: Mr. F. Edmonds; auditor: Mr. C. M. Cronquest.
