P6rS0U3-l Mr. Drake, a former resident of Shannon, has been visiting old friends here prior to returning to his home in Auckland. Mr. J. Campbell, who is farming in the Wairarapa district, is spending a few days with his parents; Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Campbell, Vance Street. Congratulations are extended to Mr. H. L. Norris, of the Shannon Post Gffice staff, who has been notified of his promotion to the next higher grade, that of senior telegraphist at Shannon. Card Winners Prize-winners at the weekly card tournament, held in Laurvig's Hall by the local branch of the Labour party on Friday evening, were Mrs. R. Andrew and Mr. J. Sinclair. The points prize was won by Mrs. C. Pedersen. Vital Statistics The vital statistics for the quarter ended September 30, recorded with the registrar (Mr. C. C. H. King) at Shannon, are as follows: — European: Births 8, deaths 1, marriages 3. Maori: Births 4, deaths nil. D Trophy for Local Marching The Shannon marching teams acknowledge the generous gift of a handsome rose bowl from Mr. Jim Robinson, of Venn Street. The trophy is for the local teams and must be marched for in Shannon. Preparations for the coming season are u'nder way and it is expected that three teams will be representing the town. As copies of the new championship march are still unavailable, the coaches are at present concentrating on revision. The first annual meeting of the local committee is to be held in Laurvig's Hall tomorrow evening, when the officers for the con.hig year will be elected. It is hoped that parents and others interested will make an effort to be present.
