LORRY RIPS OUT SIDE OF BUS
, WEUJNGTON, Oet. Seven passengers were injured, one seriously, when a Railways Road Motor Serviees lius was involved in a collision with a motor truek on Seaview Road, Petone, this afternoon. One side of the bus, wliicli was c-rowded with workers from factories at Gracefield, was rippecl out by the leading edge of the tray of the truck. The seven talcen to Hutt hospital were: — John Ogilvie, factory employee, Jackson Street, Petone, compound f'racture of tlie right leg, fracture of tlie left leg, abrasions to face, and shock (detained in hospital). I Frederick Pidgeon, Oriental Street, Petone, fractured nose (detained in hospital). — Diekson, Mitchell Street, Petone, severe laceration of the ear. N. B. Jeffcoate, Lower Hutt, laceration to forehead. David Dawson, Union Street, Petone, injuries to both ankles. T. H. Webster, 9 Nelson Street, Petone, laceration" to chin and finger. .T. V. Lanceley, Reynolds Street, Taita, laceration of finger. The five last-named were treated at the hospital and sent to their homes. The collision oecurred about 30 yards on the Eastbourne side of the intersection of Seaview Road and Randwick Road. The bus, which had just picked up a load of passengers, was travelling toward Petone and the truck which belongs to the Aectone Welding Company, was being driven to tlie com_pany's garage further down Seaview Road. The leading edge of the truck ripped out all the seats down the off side of the bus and strewed them round inside. The bus was driven by George Manson, Petone. The driver of the truck was Lewis Richard Boylan, Thorndon Quay, Wellington. Neither the driver of the truck nor his passenger was injured but the bus driver was slightly shaken.
