COASTAL SHIP STRIKES MINE

Received Wednesday, 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 7. The coastal cargo steamer Betty Hindley struck a mine two miles off Scarborough today. One member of the crew was killed and 13 others, including the captain, were injured. It is thought that the mine broke the ship's back, but it may be possible to bring the vesseU 'into the •harbour. The explosion rocked the town.
