WANTS ITS OWN GROUND
RUGBY UNION LOOKING FOR GOO» SiTE The Horowhenua Rugby Union is copcerhed - at the increasing d'emand for grounds Which has followed the rapid development of sport in the district, and is now anxious » to secure a 'site on which to establish a "home of its' own." A decision to this effect was made at the end-of-season meeting of the management committee last night following a review by the, president, Mr. A. Gillespie, of the' year's activities. ' , "I have great confidence in the future,. and sooner or later we must purchase a ground on behalf of the union," said Mr. Gillespie. fT hope that all clubs will sink parochialismi and support the establishment ,of a ground in Levin. We could then approach the N.Z.% Rugby Union for a loan, wh'ich should be granted." % With the 40-hour week had come' more leisure periods and an increase in sporting activity, which -would tax the available grounds to the utmost, continued Mr. Gillespie. ' He urged that the committee look well to the future and appoint that n-ight, a sub-committee to Investigate the posi-tion and bring something definite down before the annual meeting. They would have to have a home ahd Levin was the centre of the union. It was up to the clubs toget behind the scheme, and if they did that • they would be doing something for rugby in the Horowhenua. • After various sites had been suggested by members, it was decided that the secretary be instrueted to investigate the possibility of purchase and obtain further details, the other members being asked to look round also and notify the secretary of further sites worthy of investigation. 1 6
