Ile rang for the cage but when the operator reachcd the level lie found no oue waiting and resunied his duties. When he returned 20 miuutes later the level vvas still deserted. A scarch was made and Mr. Carnachau 's bbdy was found at the foot of the cage shaft. ilr. Carnaclian, who is . survived by his vvife and five children had been emplo.ved as a survevor or assistant surveyor in the Martha miuc for about IU years.
