REDUCED POSTAGE ON GIFT PARCELS SOUGHT
AUCKLAND, Oet. (». A suggestion that a reduetii.i in pustagc charged for gift food parcels might be reconsidered, has been made by Ihe Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, in a letter to the Postmaster-Oeneral, 11 r. Hackett. "From timo to timo 1 have been asked to approach the Oovernmeiil with a rcqucst that the postage on gin food parcels sent to the Uniled King dom, shotild be redut-ed," stiid Mr. Allum. "On each oeeasion I have passed on the explainition given by the Government that the greater part of Ihe cliarge covers freiglit and dejivery costs in the United Kingdoni. But I have just noticeil that the postage on gnt parcels from Soulh Africa to Unrope has bccn reiluced by twopence* per
