FOOTBALL SEASON ENDS
SUCCESSFUL WIND-UP DANCE As in past years the Shannon Football Club wound up its season's activities by holding a dance in the Druids' Hall. On Thursday evening, in spite of most unfavourable weather conditions, the hall was well filled for this season's function. Following the supper the opportunity was taken to present the trophies won during the year. Mr. D. Aitchison extended a welcome to the visitors and expressed thanks to all for attending on such a night to make the function a success. He then called upon Mr. A. Gillespie, president of the Horowhenua Rugby Union and the local club, to present the Robinson Rose Bowl to the captain of the local senior team. Mr. Gillespie said that the trophy had been awarded to the local team for being the best behaved, best dressed, and most punctual team in the Horowhenua competitions. Mr. Gillespie said that it was an honour to receive such a record and extended congratulations to the team. He then called upon Mr. Norman Callesen, captain of the senior team, to accept the trophy on behalf of his team mates. In his reply, Mr. Callesen stated that he was very pleased to be associated with a team who had achieved such an honour, and said he was more pleased to see his team win this trophy than he would have been to win the senior championship. The team's record reflected great credit to those , responsible for their training, concluded Mr. Callesen. Mr. Gillespie then presented the Robie and Gardner Cups, awarded for the best junior forward and back play respectively, to Messrs. R. Anderson and B. Lind. Mr. Gillespie remarked that the future players for the senior team were drawn from the ranks of today's junior players, and extended congratulations to both players for
their excellent performance during the season just passed. He expressed the hope that it would not ba long before both these boys would be wearing the senior colours for their club. . Both players suitably replied, thanking the club. and Mr. Gillespie for the honoui- they had given thepi in the selection for the trophies. . .
