BOWLING GREEN INSPECTED

Messrs W. Hadwin, C. Ingram and J. Moffitt, members of the Wellington Bowling Centre, visited Otaki yesterday and conferred witll - the committee of the Otaki Bowling Club in regard to several mat- ■ ters of interest to bowlers in general. It was pointed out by the { visitors ' that it was the centre's : intention to cater more than in the past for country members, and it was therefore suggested that .tournaments be arran'ged for the , Christmas, New Year and Easter holiday s, when the country members would be catered for by jirranging for greens from Plimmerton to Otaki to be used, instead of country members' having to journey to Wellington, unless they clesired to take pg.vt in the southern end of the centre. It had also been decided to give consideration to intermediate players, as well as seniors and juniors, and trophies would be offered accordingly. The visitors, after inspecting jthe green, expressed pleasure at its appearance, and made eulogistic reference to the good work of the caretaker, Mr. Les. Walsh. Messrs. Hadwin, - Moffitt and Ingram latef visited the Otaki Railyray Club's green and also conferred with members there concerning matters of general interest. Pleasing reference was also made to what they considered a verv fine green. •

The Raumati Club opened its season on Saturday, when. speeches suitable to the occasion were delivered. On account of- the wet surface of the green play whs not indulged in. Representatives from various clubs were present. Representatives from the Otaki and Otaki Railway Clubs have signified their intention of being present at the opening of the season at Levin on Saturday. Petone Central also open the same day, and rinks are expected from both Otaki Clubs. There were ' twelve rinks on the Otaki Railway Club's green on Sunday to take part in the first tournament of the season, and rinks represented both the Manawatu and Wellington centres. The playing surface proved excellent and, despite * the rain which fell later, play was of a high standard. Hill, Merwood and Symonds tied i \yith three games each, after which jplay was abandoned and a draw took place between the whole of the participants, J. Noble, Hook, Grey and Cahill (s) proved the winners. In another competition Messrs. Russell and F. Barrett were the wihners. Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed. Another tournament will be held on the green liext Sunday.
