MINERS QUIT BEER FOR ICE CREAMS.
GREYMQUTH, Oet. 3. An inerease in the eo.nsumption of iee ereams. and milk shakes at Greymouth does not indicpte that the district is experiencing a heat wave. To the contrary, the temperatures are below average. It merely reffects the determination of good nnionists to show they are fully behind the bbycot on beer which has been imposed by tne West Coast Trades Council to flght the inerease . of a penny a glass which was imposed by the hotelkeepers on , Wednesday to bring charges here 4nto. l'ine with those else.where in thq Doininiou. Small posters "sevenpenny beer is black, " greet the Greymouth people from walls and posts today as the latest move in the war of nerves being conducted -by the Trades Council, which has resulted in a tremendous drop in hotel patronage since Wednesday. Even yesterday wksn the streets were thronged with workers in town for Mr. O-'Brien's funeral, the hotels were comparatively deserted apart from one oi the 22 in Greymouth whieh is not abiding by the decision of the Licensea Victuallers' Association 'to inerease the price.
