BOWLING SEASON OPENED
PARAPARAUMU BEACH CLUB The weather conditions were ideal for the 'Paraparaumu Beach Bowling Club's opening and the president, Mr. T. K. Henderson, Wclcomed the visitors who, with club members, numbered somewhere near 300. Mr. Hadwin, president of the Wellington Centre, addressed the gathering and declared the greens open for play. Mrs. Henderson threw up the jack and Mr. W. Knight, one of the club's two life members, put up the first bowl. An additional function this year was the opening of the new pavilion, and Mr. Hadwin called upon Mr. Knight and Mr. Stewart, the other life member, to open the doors.
Great credit is due to the ladies' bowling section for the smooth running of the afternoon tea arrangements. It might also be mentioned that by their own efforts they purchased 18 small tables and some 64 chairs as well as a piano, and have to date raised all the money required, except about £16. To wind off a very success- . ful afternoon, Mesdames Wylie/i Nicholls, Young, Jenkins and Wil- j > kie. and Misses Cobb and Loughnan, organised a very enjoyable | dance to celebrate the opening of ; the pavilion. It is anticipated that the new j pavilion will prove a most useful . asset to the club. Among the visitors present at the opening of the greens were rinks from the Wellington Disabled Ser-i vicemen's Club, Seatoun. Karori, Porirua, Paekakariki, Raumati South, Waikanae, Otaki and Levin Central.
