Last December the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, said the dispateh of a New Zealand expedition to establish a permanent scientitic base in the Ross Dependency, would be deeided when the departmental eommittee investigating the matter had submitted its report. As far ,as could be ascertaiired, thp only direct relation between New Zealapd .and the Antarctic this- season will be the presence of a young New Zealand chemist- o£ the Department of Scientitic and Industrial Researeh, Mr. B.
