Albatross Colony
It is feared that the Royal Albatross colony at the Taiaroa Heads, Otago Peninsula, may have been broken up through the activities of sightseers and vandals, who have stolen and broken eggs, The colony was unique in that nowhere else in the world did the Royal Albatrosses breed sq near inhabited centres. The birds are still feeding in the waters off Tairoa. Heads, but they are no longer landing on the heads.
