WELLIXHTOM, Oft. 1The saies of health stamps in the Wellington district up to noon today, tlio tirst day of tiie campaign, were uiore than double the saies for thu whole of the iirst day last year and were lialf last vear's total saies for thv whole campaign. This rnorning saies amounted to £4551 17s (5d in v-alue foi Wellington and Hutt Yalley eompared with £2180 for the whole of the tirst day last year. It is expeeted the £5000 mark will be exeeeded in Wellington for the tirst day. The target for the local campaign is £15,000. Kpecial stalls manned by members of voluntary women 's organisations did brisk business with people who wished to secure tirst dav covers. Tonight it was estimated that more than 500,000 of these had passed th rough Xew Zealand post offices. Although the generai standard of living Avas high in Xew Zealand, child ren's health camps would always bc necessary. They should be instituted in every country, said Dr. H. E. Gibbschairinan of the Otaki Health Camp management committee when, in com • pany with other speakers including ttiG Mayor, Mr. W. Appleton, he launclied the campaign at a eeremony in the vestibule of the Chief Post Otiice. TluChief Postmaster, Mr. E. J. Smith, sold sheets of stamps to the spealcers as thej approached the microplione.
