TEN PER CENT. PETROL NOT BEING SAVED

WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. Tliough there was some slight saving of petrol in New" Zealand the previous week, gj'ound was lost last week, according to a report before the petrol saving committee of the Aid to Britain Council. At its meeting today the chairman of the committee, Mr. C. H. Williams, said the committee was nnanimous that the saving asked for — only 10 per cent. overall — could be effected x'oluntarily. The plea was not for a gigantie austerity campaign. Everyone could stay on the road so long as he saved a little. During the next fortnight, said Mr. Williams, conferences would be held in 20 pcstal districts on the whole aid to Britain campaign. Each district would be given a petrol savings quota. A proposal to re-establish local transpoi't coordination committees similar to those operating during the war, would be discussed by an early meeting of tho Aid to Britain National Council.
