WELLINGTON, Sept. 2'/. , With effect from October 1 a general inerease ' of ■ £25 a year, with certain .modiiications, will be gi'anted to Government employees by way of addition to present salary scales. Announcing this today, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said this was in line with the Arbitration Oourt's reeent pronouncement, and followed representations made a. week ago by organisations representing Government employees. The inerease will apply to public servants under Commission control, and to the education, police and telegraph services. In cases wliere board and lodging are provided by the Government the necessary adjustment required to be made will be the subject of immediate discussion with representatives of the employees' organisation, Where wages and conditions are governed by special agreements between the Governmentand indus.trial nnions tliere will be a review by parties to such agreements on the basis of ensuring to employees substantially the same concessions as they would • have under comparable Arbitration Court awards. The decision with regard to railway employees will be determined by the Railway Tribunal.
