IMPRESSIVE TRIBUTES

— FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. C. W. MERRYLEES The funeral of the late Mr. "Cam" Merrylees took place at Dannevirke on Thursday, when the cortege was one of the longest ever seen in the Hawke's Bay district. There were some 300 cars, while special trips had to be made to convey the large number of beautiful wreaths to the cemetery. Among the number of floral tributes were several emblems from the Horowhenua district and various local bodies and organisations. The service at the Anglican Church was eonducted by the Rev. Gardner, while at the graveside the Rev. Anderson officiated. Being a veteran of the South African war, there were many returned men in attendance and a special service was held, while members of the Buffalo Lodge were also present in large numbers to pay tribute to the deceased, who was a popular member of the organisation. Among those present were many members of racing clubs, the late Mr. Merrylees being a most popular owner oi , horses, and also many from the Horowhenua district, Otaki in particular being well represented. The bereaved family have beei: the recipients of a very large number of sympathetic messages.
