HASTINGS, Sept. 2k After several weeks of very small yardings, the store sheep pens at Stortford Lodge today bore a more active appearanefi with an entry of 6000 head. There was not the same keen demand of recent weeks and some difficulty was experieneed in maintaining last week's rates for better class ' ho'ggets. Nevertlieless the sale was fairly active and for. some of the pens passed ih vendors were aslcing a margin above the values obtained at Waipukurau yesterday. The best e*we hoggets seen in the yards this season topped the season 's selling at 46s.; Other good ewe hoggets made 41s 2d to 41s 9d with smaller at 34s ld to 3Ss 7d. Wether hoggets so'ld at 37s ld with mixed sexed at 38s 6d. Wetliers brought 41s 3d to 42s , 6d. Compared with the ' ' tiuky ' ' priees '.obtained last week ewes and 1am bs were easier, a pen of which eontained better lambs than the 32s 6d line .last week, being passed in at 30s. Another line sold at 28s lOd. . . With wethers \ip to 51s 4d in the early selling and four and five-year Down ewes to 46s lOd, the market for fat sheep was fully on a par with ruling rates. Heavy wethers made 49s 4d to 51s 4d, prime 47s 7d and lighter 41s 3d. ' Extra prime maiden ewes made 41s lOd to 44s 4d, other maiden. ewes 38s ld to 39s ld, prime oldei ewes 35s 7d to 37s 4d and Down ewes -44s lOd to 46s lOd. Prime hoggets were sold at 42s ld, medium malcing 38s 4d to 3Ss lOd and lighter 33s 4d. Quality store eattle again sold on a strong market with tliree-year steers at up to £15 4s and two-year heifers to £12 ls, but for inferior ' sorts which made up the g'reater part of the yard--ing of 1700 head, the market was sticky. Bullocks were traded at up to £16 4s, good three-year steers £15 4s, small three-year steers £10 19s, good two-year steers £10 15s to £11 14s and smaller steers of the same age £S 17s Gd to £10 2s. Yearling steers made £8. Light three-year heifers brought £9 11s and iparticularly well grown two-year heifers changed hands at £12 ls. Otliei heifers of the same age brought £8 to £9 15s. Despile a large entry of 250 head the beef market was steady at last week 's improved rates. Extra heavy li oif'ers met with a keen inquiry, blacks ranging from £16 16s to £17 18s 6d. Prime heifers sold to £14 18s Od and unliuished from £10 ls to £12 16s. Heavy bul locks tox>ped the ox market at £26 13? 6d and other good ox sold to £24 18s 6d. Other prime ox realised to £23 13s 6d;\vith light at £20 3s 6d to £21 11s and uniinished £14 13s 6d to £18 ls. Good cows made £13 8s Od and lighter £10 8s Od to £12 13s 6d.
