BOXING TITLE MATCH

At the boxing championships at Christchurch a good deal of interest was taken in the meeting of W. Russell (Canterbury) , and D. Foster (Wellington, and formerly of Otaki), who confidently expected to take the middleweight title. The tall Wellington- boxer carried the fight early, but Russell came back with a right to the jaw that had Foster rattled as he went to the floor for a count of five. Foster came in again and again, but Russell's clever evasion made the attack ineffective. Russell fought much better than he had done in his earlier bout, and in the opinion of many should have been declared the winner. Foster found difficulty in dealing with Russ'ell's style of boxing.
