“BLOCK” VOTING CRITICISED
COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS The manner in which county electors vofed was criticised at the monthiy ' meeting of the HorpWhenug Copnty Council yesterday by the chaii-man, Mr. A. J. Gimblett after the council "had elected him and' Crs. W. G. Taylor and A. M. Colquhoun as delegdtes to tbe Ward 4 conference of county couppils, to be held in Palmerston North on Tbursday, September 18. "Mr. Gimblett said he was di^safisfied with the manner in which county electors were qjlftwed tP vote. Under the existixig' laws an elector could, v;here he was givpn a choice of cabdidates, strike out all but one name, and that vote would bp valid. In np qthpr comnany he had had experience wit'h bad tbis procedure been allowed". When an elector went to a polling bppth fie should vote for tb'e required number of candidates, anpl no ^ysterp of "block" voting should be toierated.
