MAKING FOR RACECOURSE

HORSE THAT WAS FQUND WANDERING Allowing a horse to wander on the Hokio Beach- Raad cost B-. . L. Everton, of Levin, 10s when he was charged in the Magistrate's Court, Levin, on Friday. Appearing- for the Horowhenua County Council, Mr. J. p. Bertram said that the horse had been located wandering down the road near the 'main highway. It had suhsequently' been claimed by Everton. Cattle stops were provided outside the "property of defendant, . but these had apparently proved inadequate. Counsel for Everton, Mr. N. M. Thomson, entered a plea of guilty on behalf of his client. This was the second occasion on which the animal, which was a racehorse, had offended in this manner. Not pnly was it a sprinter, but it had at Qhe tirpe been used as a hunter, and had apparently jumped the cattle stop. It was not always in training, but at that time was undergoing intensive training and was very sprightly, and this had probably accounted fpr its excursion. ', | Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M. : I suppose it was making for the race- | course? When imposing the fine, Mr. Goulding said he trusted an effort would be made by the owner to keep the horse in, as by let'ting it run on the roads he was running the risk of losing it.
