GOVERNMENT APPROVES PLAN FOR RURAL HOUSES
Y\lELLINGTON, Sept. 12. The proposals submitted by Federated Farmers for the necessity of a greater percentage of ,houses being erected in rural districts have received the sympathetic and.fav-c-urable consideration cf the Government, and they have been approved in principle, stated the Minister of Works, Mr. Semple, today. Federated Farmers urged that in the inlerests of primary production and the contribution expected from the farming community to the aid for Britain campaign that immediate steps be taken by the Government to accelerate the- rate of -construction of rural housing by making available the materials required, and that the activities of the State Housing Department be extended by the erection of State rental houses in country towns and districts to provide accommodation for urgently-needed farm employees. "Measures recommended for adoption are now under consideration with a view to the policy being defined so that they can be put into operation," said Mr. Semple.
