BOROUGH MATTERS
OTAKI COUNCIL'S MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council was held on Wednesday* night, the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, presiding. There were' also= * present Crs. Young, Gimblett, Hakaraia, Bartosh, Berinett and Cook. The Valuation Department acknowledged the council's application for a revision of the values of the borough, and stated that the question was undef coiisideration, and the council coul'd be communicated with when a decision was made. The town clerk (Mr. Alex. Wilson) reported that rates were coming in well, and that the credit balance at the bank was £1600. It was pointed out that improvements were needed on certain roads at the Beach, especially near the Feltham . Home and the pavilion. It was agreed to have improvements effected, especially as the summer season was approaching. The Manawatu Regional Planning Council forwarded a copy of the minutes of its last general meeting, and advised that the next meeting would be held on November 5. Cr. Cook, the council's representative, . reported that arrangements were being made for the appointment of a secretary. He thought good work would later be accomplished by the council. An r application from Mr. M. Alexander for additions to his bach at Ngaio Street was declined. A letter • from Miss Lochore, secretary of the Adult Education Group, thanked the council for the use of the library room, and enclosed a donation towards the upkeep of the room. The Ixion Motor Club made application for permission to hold sports on the Waitohu Beach and indicated its willingness to make a donation to the Health Camp in return for the use of the beach. It was pointed out that the beach was under the jurisdiction of the Horowhenua County Council, and application for permission should be made to that body. The borough council had no "objection to the sports being held, provided the traffic regulations were adhered to as far as the borough was concerned. . Accounts amounting to £75 19s 6d were passed for payment. The Assistant Under-Secretary of Intemal Affairs, Mr. A. G. Harper, expressing thanks to Miss Atmore, the Mayor, Cr. Young aird' ■ other - members of the Maori population, for th'e welcome accorded personnel of H.M.S. Theseus and H M.S. Cockade on the occasio nof their visit. It had been a most pleasant visit, and one greatly appreciated. The Mayor stated that, by invitation, he had visited the vess'el and had been well treated, enjoying his stay on board. ' ! The- clerk submitted the district electors' list, which it was stated was ready for adoption prior to printing. The list as submitted was adopted. It was stated that the previous list contained only 900 names, whereas the present one had 1191 names.
