FIRST HEADACHE IS ITALY.
Received Wednesday, 7.0: p.in. LONDON, Sept. 10. Washington messages report that the State Department's ehieJ anxiety at the moment is Italy. ; italy's dollar reserve is now redueed to £10,750,000 and. will be exhausted in a few weeks' time unless American financial aid is forthcoming. Italy. is largely dependent upon foreign curreney for coal supplies and if these are cut off widespread unemployment and unrest is unavoidable. This, it is feared, might precipitate a situation similar to that in Greece but possibly even more dangerous. Franee is in scarcely better plight. M. Bonnet, French Ambassador, is at present en route back to Washington where he will inform the State Department that France's supplies of dollars will be exhausted in two to three, months. In view of theSe two priority claiins Britain's situation has been set aside momentarily.
