j CENTRAL CLUB ANTICIPATES GGOD SEASON One of the Central Bowling Club's most important committee meetings of the yeair was. > held recently, when arrangements for the opening of° the coming season were discussed and a general stocktaking of work done during the recess period took place. There was a goodi attendance of committee members. and a large amount of business came before the meeting. •Included m the correspondence ;was a letter from the Department -of Scientific and Industrial Research, Massey College,, Palmerston North, 'with information regarding 'mud-bath operations on- the Manawatu green, which took place on Saturday, September 6. It was previously decided on expert advice to give the green a mud-bath, - and to this end a small sub-committee was appointed to. visit Palmerston N;'orth to witness this operation on the Manawatu _ green. The work has now been completed on the Central green. An invitation was also received from the Shannon Club to participate in inter-club visits during the coming season. This matter was left in the hands of the match committee to deal with, after arrangements have been made with Levin Club for the two match committees to meet and arrange dates for the Quadrangular Shield and Bowater Memorial Trophy games. • - A report was received from the green. committee, giving details of extensrye work done on the- green during the winter months. This showed that the banks round the green have been completely renewed and a new path laid down. A great deal of work has also been done on the" green itself, which promises to be in excellent condition for bowling and, with the arrival of a new power mower, an ideal season is anticipated, It was also revealed t-hat the club could still accommodate several new members, and any wishing to join should see the secretary about nomination. A number of new members were nominated and elected. The secretary was instructed to send out. invitations for opening day, which was fixed for Saturday, October 11, at 1.30 p.m. All committees have worked very hard during the recess period, and have left no stone unturned to ensure successful bowling conditions for the forthcoming season.
