WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

LEVIN'S MONTHLY MEETING The September meeting of the Levin Women's Institute was held in the Oddf ellows' Hall and drew a very good attendance of members. In the absence of the president, Mrsv Kellaway, the yice-president, Mrs. Maugham, occupied the chair. There were several apologiea, while one new member was enrolled. It was resolved. that the usual donation be sent to the leper fund. A letter was, read from the W.I. lin^ in England, thanking members for the wonderful box of soap received'. It was suggested that the next parcel be fats, and the usual Christmas cakes when fruit will be available. An invitation from Manakau W.I. to attend their birthday party on September 18 was received. A bus will leave Bath Street at 1.30 p.m. on that date. , Thp cOhipfetitio'fi f br OvOrseas par eels was won by Mrs. Barnes, the prize being donated by Mrs. Taylor. The August compsttition for Mrs. Nichol's prize was won by.Mrs. KelLaway. A demonsfcration on the making of posies will be given by Mrs. Steward in the rest room on September 17, at 2.30 pun. Members were asked to bring flowers and leaves. etc. It is hoped' that an arts and crafts class. will be commenced • very soon under the tutorship of Miss Hawkins, of Wellington. Mrs. Dalton gave an excellent demonstration on the making of a rag doll, and had a wonderful collectron of her work in all s.orts and styl'es of doll's. It was. most interesting and a good deal of information was gained. it was enjoyed by everyone. Mrs. Dalton was presented with a posy. Quite a number of gifts were .received towards the Christmas party for the Kimberley Farm, and were well chosen and very acceptable. The competitions resulted:— Shrubs: Mrs.' Maugham 1, Mrs. Hyde 2, Mrs. Spencer 3. Flowers: Mrs. Maugham 1, Mrs. Young 2, Mrs, Spencer 3. The hostesses served afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem closed a pleasant meeting.
