WEEKEND GOLF

ACTIVITIES AT BUCKLEY Favourable weather prevailed at Buckley over the weekend, and it was pleasing to the committee to see so many players on the* links for the September medal round. Some excellent cards were returned. J. Baker was the medal winner with a score of 61. The results were as follows: J. Baker 84—23—61, E. Homer 96—28—68, C. Young 86^17 —69, S. Gledhill 93—24—69, J. Mabey 74 — 4 — 70. Again on Sunday there was a good attendance for the playing of a fourball best ball bogey. Those who handed. in cards were: F. Edmonds and J. Chambers four up, E. Homer and J. Stern three up, J. Mabey and W. Stern two up. FOURBALL COMPETITION A further two games in the club's fourball competition were played over the weekend, when H. Karena and F. Picard defeated S. Gledhill and V. Tippler on the 19th green, and J. Mabey and W. Stern defeated H. Korena and F. Picard six up and four to play. In the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup match E. T. Wilson defeated H. Mabey, three and two. A further game was also played in the senior championship, which resulted in J. Mabey defeating H. Mabey, four and two. The "top dogs" series was taken a stage further when F. Picard and H. Karena issued a challenge to the holders, J. Mabey and W. Stern. However, the holders proved too strong, and were again successful in retaining their title with a score of six up and four to play. HANDICAP REDUCTIONS The handicap committee again had a watchful eye on players over the weekend and four members came under their notice. Consequently their handicaps .have been reduced. They were: J. Baker, reduced from 21 — 16 to 18 — 14;""C Young, 17—13 to 16—12; E. Homer, 28—21 to 26—20; S. Glednill, 24—18 to 23—17. Members are reminded that next Sunday will see their popular rivals, the Tui Glen players, at Buckley, and the committee desires that as many players as possible be present. It is expected that the visitors will be arriving by special bus at about 11 a.m., and will be playing a round before lunch. In a recent letter the secretary of the Tui Glen club advised that some 30 odd players would be paying Buckley a vlsit. Members will recall the excellent time that was given local players when they" "Visited Tui Glen last season. It is the desire of the local club to retura that hospitality.
