Three solutions are put for ward: Firstlv, Paul and his party were waylaid by oue of tlie arai ed gangs which are increasingly active on the roads around Berlin; secondly, the Russians arrested him (this seems to be discounted by the report that the Russians asked the Gernian frontier guards and the Ainerican militarv police to hand Paul and his wife ovci if they should be located); thirdlv, that Paul made for the west, Thuringia having beeome too hot for him largoly be cause of his record as a former State political prosecutor, his ponipous way of living, autocratic nianner and political extravaganzas. The Mayerbach car belonging to the missing minister presideut of Thuringia, Dr. Rudolf Paul, has been fouud abandoned near Potsdam, says The Times' Berlin correspondent. It is known, liowever, that when Dr. Paul left the political conference on August 1 he was in his wife's less conspicuous Mejcedes car. The two cars, with Dr Paul's interpreter and his son in the Mayerbach, were seen headed for Berlin. Later the same day the Mayerbach was found abandoned. There were no traces of the Mercedes, which carried Dr. Paul and his wife and a police driver. It is known that Dr. Paul re cently incurred the displeasure of both the Russians and his associates in the Sociaiist Unitv Party.
