' NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 7. A. S. Mobberley (Palmerston North) Won the West Coast (North Island) Amateur Athletic Centre;s 50-mile road eycle championship over a course from New Plymouth- to Stratford and back on Saturd'ay. The next fastest time was recorded by J. S. Rogerson (Hani ilton). The junior championship was won by T. Philpott (Wanganui) with P. Jarrett (Feilding) second. The race was won by C. Harper- (Hamilton) who had a handicap of 14 minutes. There were 61 competitors from all parts of the West. Coast CentTe' and from a nuniber of elubs in the Auckland. Province, including F. T. Tredea (Auckland and New Zealand champion) and record holder for ten miles on a circular track. The times recorded by the scratch men were considered excellent. They took one liour ten minutes to reach Stratford and returned in less than 57 minutes. The scratch men had niade up almost 14 minutes when they turned at Stratford. Harper was ih the leading bunch at Midhurst on the return and at Inglewood he broke away from R. Crawford (Hamilton) and G. Redgate (Te Awamutu), increasing his lead ali the way to the linishing line. The first six to finish were: — C. Harper (Hamilton) 14min. hdcp., 2hrs. 28min. 30sec 1 A.
