FRENCH GOVERNMENT GETS NEW LEASE OF LIFE
LOXDON. Sept. 7. The Times' Paris eorrespondent says that the passage of the Government 's Bill for a subsidy to keep down the price of coal represented the fiffh vote of eonfidence which M. Ramadier has asked of the Assembly and it brought him the smallest majority of all. Indeed, the vote is in a sense a defeat for the abstentions must be regarded as part of the Opposition, and with them would number one more than the Government ;s supporters. Telephone communication between Paris and London was severed for several hours on Friday night beeause most of the French civil servants stopped work and joined mass demonstrations against the recent food cuts. The Daily Telegraph's Paris eorrespondent says crowds of vorkers as the Fi'ench Cabinet met to discuss M. Ramadier 's i'uture marched through the streets shouting: "Resign, Ro.madier! " ,Six processions crowded the Champ de Mars where they lield a mass meeting. Demonstraticns and strikes are reported at numerous provincial points. A crowd at Nantes tried to break down the railings of the Prefecture. The police dispersed them with teargas.
