GUNNING—BEECH WEDDING
Relatives and: friends from Ashburton and the Manawata- district - were; present at St. Peter's Anglican Church ji Terrace End, Palmerston North, in the early afternoon of Saturday, August 16, 1947, to witness the wedding quietly celebrated of Doris Nola, second daughter of Mr, and Mrs. E. I. Beech, Mangaore, Shannon, and Athol West, second son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Gunning, Stout Street, Shannon. The officiating minister was Rev. J. Harold Datson, of Foxton, and approprlate music for the occasion was played by the church organist. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was charmingly attired in a powder blue crepe frock, made with a fitting bodice featuring long sleeves and a square neckline edged with narrow frilling. The gored skirt had a slightly flared peplum fastened at the waist with a self material bow. Pale blue and pink artificial flowers were fashioned to form a toque and blue veiling added to the decorative effect. The shades of blue and pink were repeated in her bouquet of carnations, stocks, cyclamen and winter roses which was tied with blue ribbons. A silver filigree necklace was worn. Miss Lavinia Beech was in attendance as bridesmaid and her suit of dusky pink crepe. made with a heart-shaped neckline, dolman sleeves and gored skirt featuring a double frilled peplum, blended beautifully with the colours worn by her sister. Her ornaments were a pearl necklace with matching earrings and she wore a small flowered toque with veiling and carried a bouquet of pastel shaded pink and blue flowers tied with pink ribbons. Mr. Warren Bell, of Palmerston North, carried out the duties of bestman. On leaving the church for the reception, which was held at the P. D. C. tearooms, Beverley Beech presented her sister with a "good luck" sa'tin horseshoe ornarpented with heather. Mr. and Mrs. Beech and Mr. and Mrs. Gunning received the guests, who greeted and extended felicitations to the young newly-wed couple. Mrs. Beech was attired in a navy frock and coat with matching accessories, a touch of .contrasting colour being given by a shoulder spray of pink hyacinths. Mrs. Gunning (the bridegroom's mother) wore a navy pinstripe suit with ] matching a'ccessories and a shoulder spray of white hyacinths. Mr. V. Bateman ably carried out the duties of toastmas'ter and when the festivities were concluded the happy couple left to catch the express for Auckland. For travelling the bride wore a fawn camel hair coat, navy hat and accessories. Gn their retum Mr and Mrs'. Athol Gunning will take up their residence in j Palmerston North.' •'
