FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
world-wide campaign Eeeeived Fridav, 8.35 p.m. NEW YOEK, Sept. 4. Plans to create a worldwide organisation to combat cancer and to eoordinate cancer research in a manner caleulated to eoncentrate all the world 's best efforts against this disease on a global basis, were outlined today at the fourth International Cancer Eesearch Congress at St. Louis, Missouri. The congress move was given inipetus by President Truman's announcement that radioisotopes (which one scientist described as the atomie weapon against cancer) will be relealfed to foreign nations. According to the plan as outlined by Dr. Cowdrv, president of the congress, each country would be asked to participate in the new organisation. Each Government would be asked to contribute to the eost in proportion to its size and resources and each country would be entitled to one representative. The organisation would meet once yearly in a different country to liear progress reports and direct future programmes. Ofiicers would be limited to three year terms while delegates would not be subject to any time limitation. The executive eommittee of congress has agreed to this set of principles and complete agreement was •voted later. The decision to aid research abroad with American radioisotopes is expected to result in early orders from manv nations. It was announced at OakI'idge yesterday that at least 24 nations including Eussia, New Zealand and South Africa, had already inquired about the availabiliyy of' the Oakridge by-products.
