LEVIN LAWN TENNIS CLUB PREPARES FOR SEASON
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS In his opening remarks to the annual meeting of the Levin- Lavrn Tennis Club," the president, Dr. S. J. Thompson, "referred to the great loss sulfered by the club in the death of Mr. 'J. T. McDonald. Interested in tennis since the formation of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. McDonald had been chairman of the management committee for many years. Latterly, he had been president of the association. As a mark of observe one minute's silence. s the president called on members to observe one minut's silence. - In his report on the club's activities, Dr. Thompson remarked on the reduction in membership during the season. Pleasant tennis had been enjoyed, however: Continuing, Dr. Thompson stated that during the season the play for the Linklater Cup had been resumed. After challenging the Bulls Club, Levin had been successful Hti winning the cup. In March the southern branch of the Manawatu Association held a tournament open to all players in the district, play taking place on Levin and Weraroa courts. "I desire to record appreciation of the work of the subcommittee which ' arranged this most- successful tournament," added Dr. Thompson. The financial position shows a. loss of approximately £16 on the year's working. On examination of the accounts, it could he seen that the tennis ball account had shown a loss of £39. The ball levy of three shillings per head covered only a small amount of the expense which had been incurred in the provision of the balls. The actual cost had been 10s per head. Dr. Thompson asked the meeting to give consideration to the matter of an increase in the ball levy. Election of Offieers The following offieers were elected for the coming season: — Patron: Prof. F. P. Wilson; president: Dr. Thompson; vice-president: Mr. G. H. Sorenson; club captain: Mr. P. i B. Nichol; committee: Messrs. W. Leach, R. Antcliff, J. Wardell and J. Tomlinson, Misses ChapmanCohen, R. Williams, B. Kilsby and M. Fletcher; delegates to Mana-
watu Lawn Tennis Association: Dr. Thompson and Mr. Sorenson; auditor: Mr. E. S. Crisp. The position of secretary will be decided on by the committee. General Business It was decided thab the subscriptions for the ensuing year be as follows: — Gentlemen, £3; ladies, £2 10s; juniors, £1 10s. All subscriptions will be subject to a discount if paid before November 30, and will include the ball levy of eight shillings. It was recommended that the opening day for the club should be September 27, but the flnal decision was left in the hands of the management committee. A motion that the match committee arrange for crganised play on both Saturdays and Sundays met with general approval. "
