BANK MANAGER RETIRES

TRIBUTES TO HIS SERVICE A representative body of bus- . iness men, farmers and ditizens met in the Council Chambers yesterday to honour the retiring ] manager of the Levin branch of \ the Bank of New Zealand, Mr. P.- ( C. Hill. Succeeding the late Mr. } Walter Smaill, Mr. Hill has been ( manager at the branch for nine ■ and a-half years. ; Presiding at yesterday's gathefr- ) ing, Mr. F. H. Hudson welcomed j Mr. and Mrs. Hill and read to them : a message from the Mayor of ; Levin, Mr, H. B. Burdek'in, who is at present in Helensville, which voiced appreciation of Mr. Hill's service to the business community, and the hope that both Mr. and Mrs. Hill would have a pleasant retirement. In his openjng remarks, Mr. Hudson also referred to the services rendered the business people of Levin by Mr. Hill, and to the large number of customers of the bank and the co-operation and assistance which had been rendered them by Mr. Hill and the staff. He wished Mr. and Mrs. Hill happiness in their retirement. Other speakers were Messrs. J. A. Mitchell (Ihakara), D. P. Todd, J. C. Milnes, W. Gwynn (secretary of the KukU-Manakau Dairy Company) , W. G. Phillips (Horowhenua Power Board) and L. A. Whitham (postmaster) . When presenting Mr. Hill with a cheque, Mr. Hudson expressed the wish that he would purchase with it something for his new house in Levin to. remind him of his business associates in the town. In reply, Mr. Hill expressed his indebtedness to those who had arranged the function and stated that it was the ambition of both himself and his wife to serve the town in the future in whatever way they could. He had aiways done his best to care for the interests of his customers to the best of his ability. If he had carried out his duties to the satisfaction of all, he considered that was sufficient reward. In conclusion, he welcomed the new manager, Mr. W. L. J. Travers, and trusted that he would receive the same. co-opera-tion which had been accorded him. Mr. Travers suitably replied.
