LONG WAIT TO RESTORE WANGANELLA
WELLINGTON,' Aug. -2. It may now be a complete year from the time the llner Wanganella grounded on Barrett's reef before steel to restore her to seaworthiness reaches Wrellington. The suppliers of the material, Messrs. Harland and Wolff, of Belfast, hope to ship steel amounting to some 500, tons by the end of November, according to latest adviee. It is, however, possible, owing to shipping difficulties, that the steel mhy not "come to hand until the end of next January. It was on January 19 last that the liner was stranded. There will be no delay in beginning the repairs on a highly-organised basis when the steel does.come to hand and the wofk may be accomplished by the end of iiext May or June. Meanwhile the Wanganella continues to lie :alongside Clyde Qua'y but under much-reduced air compression to keep her afloat. The reduction has been effected by a gradual_ proeess of sealing up lealcs in the foredecks and hold, and the ship is appreciably more secure than. when she was taken alongside the wharf. The seabed failed to hold her deadweight when compression was released.
