BRITAIN CANNOT ACT ALONE IN PALESTINE
Received Tuesdav, 7.0 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 2. Rritish newspapers unahimously condemn the proposal that Britain should carry on the administration of Palestine for the transitional period of two years. The Times, in a leader, says neitlier plan franklv recognises that its imposition mav require the use of a very considerable foree. The people of Britain would not be disposed the sustain unaided the burden and odium inseparable from enforcing the plan. Aetion nlong eooperative lines is essential if Uno is to solve the Palestine pfobleni. The Stern gang organisation, commenting on the Palestine committee 's report, has called on the Jewish people "to prepare for a prolonged war against the British. " In a press statement it strongly criticised tlie partition plan. The Arab higher executive, after a dav long eonferenee, issued a warning that any attempt to carry out either the majority or minority report on Palestine would "set the East alire. " The committee reiterated the demanfl for an independent Arab state and the eessation of all Jewish iminigration to Palestine.
