COUNTER-REVOLUTIONISTS GET SUPPORT IN ECUADOR
Received Wednesday, 10.35 a.m. QUITO, Sept. 2. The Conservative counter-revolu-tionary forces seeking to overtnrow Colonel Mancheno's new regime, are reported today to be only twelve miles from Quito in their march on the capital, which began after the garrisons at Tulcan and Ibarra joined the cuunter-revoiu-tionary army. The garrison oi Guayaquil, Ecuador's leading port, has also joined the counter-revolu-tionaries. Captain Antonio R-ives Bidalgo has assumed command of the Guayaquil garrison. Re was said to be supported by all the junior officers in the Bolivar Artillery Regiment, the mechanised corps and anti-aircraft bad.ery. He has issued a manifesto promising to maintain order and absolute freedom of the press.
