FAT SHEEP PRICES INCREASE

WEEKLY SALE IN LEVIN The quality of the fat sheep yarded at the Levin sale yesterday was better than usual. Good quality wethers appreciated tv/o to three shillings per head on last week's rates. Fat ewes sold readly, while hoggets made to 42s. The ■first spring lambs of the season were yarded and sold in advance of vendors' expectations. No vealers came forward, but fat cows met with the readiest sale this season, selling at prices Up to £16 17s 6d. The oxen penned wero of lighter weight than usual, selling nevertheless at from £16 17s 6d to.£19 12s 6d. - There was a fair yarding; of dairy cattle, heifers and cows elose to profit meeting with a steadier demand. Very few ex-dairy cows, boners and fat stock were penned, the offering appreciating by £2 to £4 on last week's rulings. The pig yarding was quite fair, and well fihished lots met with keen butchers' competition. Several pens requiring finishing did not sell so readily, but were absorbed by local fatteners. No choppers were presented, while stores and weaners met keen competition. Following is a range of prices realised: — Sheep: Extra prime wethers, 50s lOd to 52s 7d; prime do., 48s ld to 49s 7d; medium do., 44s 7d to 48s ld; prime fat ewes, 37s 4d to 39s lOd; medium do., 34s lOd to 37s ld; extra prime hoggets, to 42s Ld; prime do., 38s 4d to 39s lOd; medium do., 35s lOd to" 37s 7d; light and unfinished do., 31s lOd to 33s 4d; forward wether hoggets, to 31s 8d.
