ATTEMPT TO GET LINER OFF CORAL REEF

Received Monday, 8.0 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 1. The work of blasting the eoral to free the Austraiian liner Reynella from Jomard reef, 100 miles southeast of Samarai, has been held np by a shortage of explosives. The plane flying gelignite and T.N.T. to the ship has been forced down twice by engine trouble. An R.A.A.F. Catalina was irorced to return to Sydney soon after leaving, with an overheated engine. After servicing it set out again but is down today at-Brisbane. Passengers in the Reynella, numbering 31, have been transferred from the ship to Merkur. The salvage tug Tancred from Brisbane is expected to reach the Reynella late today.
