"ABSURDLY HIGH" PRICES FOR JAPANESE GOODS
Received Tuesday, 11.15 a.m. ToKJlO, Sept. 1. The offlcial prices of Japanese goods for priva^e trade released today with "Supreme Command approvai were descnbed by visiting uraders — mostiy Ameriean — as •absurdly high." With the excepoion of toys, Christmas decorations and other gimcracK, there is little available for sale. All prices were listed in United States dollars. Typical items were 400 wooden fans at 33 dollars 60 cents, a smaii tea kettle, one doliar ten cents, and dolls up to six c-oilars. A certain amount of food is available, ouu this also is considered highly priced.
