NATIONAL SAVINGS

MANAKAU GETS ITS YEAR'S QUOTA The "highlight" of National Savings activities in the Palmerston North postal dstrict last week was the. completion of the full annual quota by Palmerston North and Manakau. Outstanding weekly figures have been returned by Palmerston North city since the commencement of the year on April 1, last, and the attainment of the 1947-48 objective of £91,520 (calculated on the basis of 4s per household per week) is a most commendable achievement. The buoyant nature of investments would point to last year's retord being further improved upon when this year's figures are announced on March 31 next. Manakau's effort in completing the yearly quota oi £780 at this early date was a good one, as last year the objective was not achieved until March. The total from all places last week was £8167 — Palmerston North £3206, district towns £4961. Sanson was the only place failing to b'e credited with a weekly success. *
